Staff at St. Andrew’s Public School in Cambridge initiated a “hold and secure” procedure Friday after a man with a hatchet was seen running towards the school.
Waterloo Regional Police say someone called to make a report about an intoxicated man who was seen carrying a hatchet on Glenmorris Street just before 1 p.m. The man ran in the direction on St. Andrews School after realizing he was being watched.
Police contacted the school to make them aware of the man in the area. Shortly after, officers arrested a 34-year-old Cambridge man. Police do not believe the man presented a danger to the students or staff at the school.
Still, staff locked the school’s doors as a precaution.
