KITCHENER — Jury selection began Monday for the first-degree murder trial of a Cambridge man accused in a 2007 shooting death in a North Dumfries Township park.
Yousantha Youvarajah, 23, is one of three suspects arrested in the slaying of Conestoga College student Andrew Freake, 19, during an alleged drug ripoff.
A teenager, who can’t be named because he was 16 at the time of the killing, admitted last year that he was the shooter and received a seven-year sentence for second-degree murder.
Raibeen Mohammad, 21, of Cambridge pleaded guilty to helping the two other suspects escape after the shooting. He was sentenced to the equivalent of nine months in custody and two months on probation.
Youvarajah is accused of orchestrating the murder. His actual trial is expected to begin later this week.
