$3 million water cleaning system approved for west Galt

CAMBRIDGE - Waterloo Regional councillors will spend $3 million on technology to clean a noxious solvent from drinking water in Cambridge.
The Middleton water system provides 40 per cent of city water. It's contaminated in trace amounts by trichloroethylene, a common industrial degreaser.
Officials contend there's no health threat because the contamination falls just below the Ontario standard of five parts per billion.
The water-cleaning equipment will be operational in 2011. Similar equipment is in place to clean a different industrial solvent from drinking water in Kitchener.
